RHONCOPATHY AND APNEAS
In our center, diagnosis and treatment is carried out in conjunction with an interdisciplinary assessment that includes, in addition to our service, the sleep specialists of the Estivill clinic. Snoring affects 10% of the pediatric population, while obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAHS) is around 3%. The clinical repercussions can be reflected in cardiovascular alterations, behavioral alterations (attention deficit, hyperactivity, aggressiveness, irritability), neurocognitive alterations (memory, global intelligence and alterations in language acquisition...).
The most frequent cause of airway obstruction in children is adenotonsillar hypertrophy (an inherent and very frequent factor in children's anatomy).
The treatment of choice in children is surgery aimed at resolving the cause of the obstruction. Surgery that is performed easily and safely using new technologies: laser surgery, CO₂, radiofrequency... It is a surgery of approximately half an hour, which consists of the partial reduction of the tonsils and the removal of vegetations (adenoidectomy), using the most advanced methods that minimize both pain and intra and post-surgical complications.
- Audiometry and impedance audiometry, as well as the possibility of scheduling audiometry for children from 2 years of age with suspected hearing impairment.
- Study of auditory neurophysiology by neonatal screening using Brainstem Potentials and Steady State Evoked Potentials, the latter of recent application, consists of an innovative method that allows the estimation of detailed audiometry by frequencies, using the latest generation of computer software.
- Advice to parents in case of need for hearing aids or specific surgeries.
- Acute otitis media (AOM) together with seromucous otitis (SMO) are one of the most frequent pathologies during childhood. Most of them resolve spontaneously, but 6% of them require surgical treatment through the placement of transtympanic drains. Quick and simple surgery that effectively resolves this pathology.
- Our service also performs mastoiditis surgeries, chronic otitis, tympanoplasty, etc.
- Hearing surgery through conventional surgery of stapedectomies, as well as more sophisticated surgeries through Implantable Hearing Devices, Cochlear Implants...
