This unit is organized in 2 sections in charge of the diagnosis and treatment of pathology derived from the ear, organ of balance and hearing. Audiology Section equipped with the latest technological innovations.

• It performs the diagnosis of hearing loss in children and adults, using standard tests such as audiometry and impedance audiometry or more specific tests such as brain stem evoked potentials and steady state potentials.
• Specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of tinnitus, it offers the latest protocols, personalized therapies and multidisciplinary approaches.
• Medical treatment and postural rehabilitation of patients with vertigo.
• Advice for prosthetic fitting.

The Otologic and Neurotologic Microsurgery section deals with the surgical treatment of auditory pathology.

• By means of different Otologic Microsurgery techniques, stapedectomies, middle ear prosthesis placement, osseointegral implants, cochlear implants... are performed for the treatment of hearing loss.
• Reconstructive microsurgery of chronic otitis, tympanic perforations, cholesteatomas... Through tympanoplasties, myringoplasty, placement of transtympanic drains.
• Otoneurosurgical techniques for the approach of skull base and cerebellopontine angle tumors; extensive experience in the surgical treatment of Acoustic Neurinoma (Vestibular Schwannoma).
• Surgical treatment of vertigo through intratympanic therapy and labyrinthectomy.

The nose is the entrance of air into our body and one of the main aesthetic points of the face. A correct nasal breathing is important for daily life, since the deficit of this function can cause from rhoncopathy to alterations of the night rest, physical exercise...
Nasal function can be altered for various reasons: nasal septum deviations, nasal valve and tip deformities, hypertrophy or thickening of the inferior turbinates, rhinosinusitis, polyposis...

Fibroendoscopy, a quick and simple test that we perform in our offices, allows us to visualize the inside of the nose and thus diagnose the problem. Sometimes, other tests such as CT scan or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) are necessary to complete the study.

Our service is part of the Functional Unit of Allergy and Otorhinolaryngology, which allows us to offer a global attention to an increasingly frequent pathology in our population such as allergy.

Surgery is often the treatment for nasal problems, being mostly minimally invasive techniques.

• Septoplasty or septum surgery.
• Functional rhinoseptoplasty, when in addition to a respiratory problem, the patient wants to change the appearance of his nose.
• Volume reduction of the inferior turbinates by means of technologically advanced surgery: laser, CO₂, radiofrequency, etc. It is a fast, simple and effective treatment for the treatment of turbinate hypertrophy that is performed under local anesthesia.
• Endoscopic nasosinusal surgery. Without external scars, it is the method of choice for the treatment of sinusitis, polyposis or tumors.

This unit is in charge of the diagnosis and treatment of the pathology originated in the Facial Nerve. The main objective of our service is to make a global assessment in order to offer an effective treatment that avoids possible sequels in the form of facial paralysis.

Our service stands out for being a pioneer in the creation of the Facial Function Repair Unit, whose objective is the integral treatment of Facial Paralysis.

Facial paralysis does not only cause an important aesthetic defect, but also involves a series of complications such as eye injuries, swallowing and speech disorders... In addition to the important psychological affectation it implies.

Through a coordinated work between the Otorhinolaryngology Service, Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation, a multidisciplinary solution is offered to the patient to achieve the best aesthetic result. Together with the most modern surgical techniques, an important subsequent rehabilitation work is carried out to optimize the results.

The ENT service of the IUD is structured in different sub-specialized sections. The section on diseases of the face and neck covers both benign and malignant pathology of the face and neck.

• Voice pathology: benign vocal cord pathologies, specialized in voice professionals (teachers, singers, actors...).
• Cervical pathology: salivary glands, thyroid glands, cervical cysts, ganglions.
• Head and neck cancer (mouth, pharynx, larynx): The care activity is articulated through the head and neck oncology unit, formed by our service, together with medical oncology directed by Dr. Rosell and radiation oncology. The objective is to offer a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to head and neck cancer in order to achieve a rapid and effective diagnosis and treatment. The ENT service has the capacity to perform CO₂ laser surgery, partial surgery with voice preservation, placement of phonator prostheses, reconstructive surgery with pedicled and microvascularized flaps. It also offers speech therapy support for voice and swallowing rehabilitation.

Respiratory sleep disorders, such as snoring and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, are very frequent in the population, causing a significant reduction in quality of life and a higher mortality rate.

Our unit is made up of a multidisciplinary team with otorhinolaryngologists, pulmonologists and nurses that cover all the possibilities of study and treatment, adapting to the different needs of the patients.

For this purpose, at the diagnostic
diagnosis
we perform a complete assessment of the patient with a multilevel physical examination (nostrils, tonsils, tongue, jaw, etc.) to determine possible sites of obstruction and nocturnal sleep studies by means of respiratory polygraphy or nocturnal polysomnography.

Regarding the
treatment
Depending on the characteristics of the patient, we can indicate different therapies such as:

• CPAP: device that through a nasal or nasobuccal mask introduces pressurized air to the patient preventing the collapse of his airway.
• Mandibular advancement devices (MAD): modify the position of the mandible, tongue and other structures to achieve a greater opening of the upper airway,
• Surgical treatments: Septoplasty, turbinate surgery, tonsillectomies, pharyngoplasty, tongue base reduction...

As part of the diagnosis and to improve the success of the treatment, we perform Videosomnoendoscopy of induced sleep under sedation (DISE or Drug-Induced Sleep Apnea ) that allows direct visualization of the anatomy in a sleep state that is as similar as possible to when you normally sleep at home with the appearance of snoring and apnea.
